چکیده

INTRODUCTION An important difference between natural teeth and dental implants is the fact that dental implants do not move in response to applied loads. As titanium implants do not have a periodontal ligament, intensive loads are transmitted and distributed to the adjacent bone. However, it is desirable in the implant-supported prosthesis that masticatory loads are distributed evenly. There is a physiological limit of bone tolerance to tensile and compressive strengths and Braz Oral Res 2004;18(1):45-52

Photoelastic Analysis of Two Maxillary Protocols Using Zygomatic Implants Análisis Fotoelástico de Dos Protocolos Maxilares con Uso de Implantes Cigomáticos

The aim of this study was to analyse the in vitro the stress distribution in craniofacial structures around zygomatic implants. Synthetic polyurethane skulls replicas were used as templates for installation of standard and zygomatic implants performing two techniques using rehabilitation with using one zygomatic implant in the right and left side in combination with 2 and 4 standard implants in...

Photoelastic stress analysis in mandibular bone surrounding bar-clip overdenture implants.

The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate, using the photoelastic analysis method, the stress distribution in mandibular bone surrounding a bar-clip overdenture when 2 implant angulations were simulated. Two mandibular photoelastic models were manufactured, with 2 implants embedded in the interforaminal region: model 1-PAPI, a photoelastic analysis model with parallel implants; and model 2...

Photoelastic Analysis of Fixed Partial Prosthesis Crown Height and Implant Length on Distribution of Stress in Two Dental Implant Systems

The aim of this study was to evaluate by photoelastic analysis stress distribution on short and long implants of two dental implant systems with 2-unit implant-supported fixed partial prostheses of 8 mm and 13 mm heights. Sixteen photoelastic models were divided into 4 groups: I: long implant (5 × 11 mm) (Neodent), II: long implant (5 × 11 mm) (Bicon), III: short implant (5 × 6 mm) (Neodent), a...

Short-term immunosuppressive therapy does not affect the density of the pre-existing bone around titanium implants placed in rabbits Terapia imunossupressora não afeta a densidade do osso preexistente ao redor de implantes de titânio inseridos em coelhos

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of the administration and withdrawal of cyclosporin A/nifedipine on the bone density in a lateral area adjacent to implants placed in rabbits. Two screw-type titanium implants were placed bilaterally in twenty-eight New Zealand rabbits. The animals were assigned to one of the following groups and received daily subcutaneous injections for 14 d...
